Homeschool- Blue, Yellow, and Penguins!!

byp4Due to my classes starting in January, I have decided it would be easier to summarize Week 2, 3 and 4 into one post.

Marina has really been enjoying the curriculum from HomeCEOAcademy. It is engaging and very thorough. Each unit has progressed to include colors from the previous units as well as math concepts from 1 – 4. Marina already knows her number from 1-10 as well as her colors, shapes, and alphabet but the curriculum really works to take the basics much farther.

Marina is starting to become more focused as we move through the units. She really enjoys practicing her fine motor skills with the use of play-dough, which she call “squish” . She also loves the coloring sheets. One of her favorite activities is coloring and with this curriculum she gets plenty of coloring sheets to practice with. She has gained an understanding of staying in the lines and has become more focused on trying to make sure she does. You can really see the difference when she is trying to write letters and numbers.

It has been amazing to watch her grow and learn this past month with HomeCEOAcademy. We are looking forward to starting on Week5 – Green! Be sure to check out HomeCEOAcademy for this outstanding curriculum!

Preschool – Week 1 – The Color Red

marina-redMarina and I were very excited to start her first week of home school preschool with HomeCEOAcademy! Week 1’s focus was on the color red and letter sounds for C and M.

marinapeekMarina already knows all of her colors but the color focus portion of the lesson provided good reinforcement of the color and was a great theme to use with other portions of the lesson for us.  I really loved that we could incorporate so many of the learning tools we already have into the curriculum and I can tailor it around her needs.

I let Marina pick and choose which aspects of the lessons she wants to try each time and let her take breaks as she needs. It has worked very well for us previously and she seems to stay more focused on her tasks when she is ready to do them. We started our first morning by doing a color sort using the initial print outs provided, then by sorting her magnetic alphabet, color figures and stringing buttons.

marinacardsMarina loved using her red crayons for her assignments and practicing her fine motor skills by tracing lines, drawing circles, rectangles and squares. She knows her shapes as well, so she was really excited to see how the shapes were associated with the world around her.

Her favorite portion of this weeks lesson has been the letter sounds flash cards. She loves sorting the cards and has made it a habit of going through them every day on her own. I look forward to added the next set of letters to them as we continue to work through the program.

If you are looking for an engaging, well-rounded curriculum program for your child, HomeCEOAcademy is perfect.

Preschool Fun – Our Circle Time Board

One of the biggest challenges I have had was finding well rounded preschool curriculum that did not require a computer or tablet for Marina to use. Technology has it’s advantages but I love the hands on experience of learning instead of sitting my little one in front of a screen. Thanks to Dadrific over at Life On A Dime, I was introduced to HomeCEOAcademy. It was exactly what I was looking for! A full curriculum program that would prepare Marina for Kindergarten, with lots of hands on learning.

Our first adventure into preparing for the start of the next preschool session is making our Circle Time board. The instructions for the board are well written and the graphics are adorable.

Material Needed

  • Printer
  • Card Stock
  • Glue Stick
  • Poster Board
  • Fun Designed Duct Tape
  • Scissors
  • Clear Box Tape or Laminator (I seriously need one of these!)

First came printing all of the components.

Cutting out the cards was a very simple process.

Normally the circle board would look something like this.

As many of my readers know, I found out I was pregnant with Marina when I was still in high school. I am now in college working on my bachelor’s degree and am still living with my parents while I finish college. Marina’s home school area is being set up in the family room. Because of the lack of wall space I would need to put both the Circle Time and our Schedule Board on one poster board. The top portion of the board is our Circle Time board. By using our handy dandy Duct Tape (Marina picked the Zebra Stripes), I converted the circles into pockets to hold the day of the week and weather cards. I used clear box tape to laminate the cards so I wouldn’t have to worry about damaging them as we work through the complete preschool program.

YAY! Circle Time!

We now have a condensed version of the Circle Time board that will function the same as the full board would. Keep an eye out for my Schedule Board post to see what our completed project will look like!

So excited to start preschool with #HomeCEOAcademy

homeceoage2-3 I am excited to announce that Marina will be starting HomeCEOAcademy’s 2 & 3 year old preschool curriculum in January as a Brand Ambassador.

We are just starting to print our home school classroom and I am very impressed with what I am seeing so far. I have no doubt the curriculum will keep Marina engaged. The print outs are beautiful and I love the focus that is applied to each unit. The hceo2Age 2 & 3 program is $40.00 for the complete year plus bonus units for holidays. As an added value, you can purchase both the Age 2& 3 and the Age 4 curriculum for $100.00. All profits are donated to charity which is a big plus in my book! If you would like to get a good look at the program before starting your little one, you can try it for free before deciding to start this wonderful curriculum. Keep an eye out on the blog for our progress in the program!

The Hard Work Is Paying Off!

CM1I found out yesterday that I will graduate in May with both an Associate’s in Arts and an Associate’s in Science. After the fall of 2016 I should also have an Associate’s in Criminal Justice. I plan on continuing to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. The past couple of years has been an incredible journey of both ups and downs from learning how to be a parent to battling depression.

The hard work is worth it and I don’t think I could have come this far without my support network. I have a wonderful family and some incredible friends that have stuck by me through all of this. I will be someone that my daughter can me proud of.

Marina2As for Marina…I can’t believe how fast she is growing. She’s not a baby anymore. She is a spunky and loving little girl who surprises me everyday with something new she has learned. She’s getting so tall and starting to loose her chunky little legs. She loves going for walks and playing in the park. She can be stubborn and bullheaded or as sweet as sugar depending on her mood. From what mom tells me, she’s the perfect toddler and just like me when I was her age.

I am really looking forward to the holiday break in between semesters so I can spend more time with my little cuddle bug.

MeandMarina2I am officially finished with my second semester of college. I am registered for one online summer class and have already registered for my fall semester. I still haven’t decided what I want to major in. It is such a tough choice since I had to rearrange what my plans were but I am taking a class in the fall that is in the area of interest that I originally wanted. I may not be able to get into the exact field of work I wanted but I am trying to look at a broader aspect and see if something related to it catches my interest. I’m also going to get a drawing class in. I love to draw and am looking forward to gaining some more skills in that area.

Marina is doing fantastic. She has the balance and the mechanics of walking down but she still doesn’t quite trust herself. She will walk a few steps without holding on to anything and then realize what she did then drop to the floor and crawl. I have a feeling when she finally realizes that she can do it she will go straight to running! She’s really been enjoying some of the new toys she got for her birthday. A couple of her favorites are the Smart Stages Car and the Little People Magic Kingdom play set, both from Fisher-Price. I have a lot of fun sitting with her and playing. She’s so smart and catches on to how the toys work very quickly. We also have a lot of fun playing catch with the balls my little brother got her. She is getting pretty good at aiming and throwing. She also loves when we read books, play music and sing. When she hears a song playing she will hum along with it.MarinaLaugh I love to see her laugh and smile. She is always so happy.

I am looking forward to a fun filled summer with her. I can’t wait to take her swimming in the pool. She loves water so being in the pool is going to be a big thrill for her. I’m also looking forward to scheduling some play dates with some of my friends. Now that I will have some free time it will be so much easier to schedule. We have some great parks in our area and a very cool petting zoo/ animal sanctuary that is a must visit for us this summer.

No matter how much I have had to change my life and plans, every moment I get to spend with Marina makes everything worth it!
