When Life Takes Over…

MarinaJeepSometimes even the best laid plans can go down the tubes. Unfortunately, we had to cancel Marina’s birthday party. It seemed like everyone in the house had some sort of flu bug that just wouldn’t go away the week before. The last thing we wanted to do was pass it on to the kiddos that would be attending. So far it looks like it is passing Marina up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

She still had a great celebration with family and Elsa did indeed make her visit (Auntie’s rule!!). She loved her birthday cake even though it looked like a snowstorm gone wrong and just seeing the joy on her face when she got her Frozen Jeep was worth all of the preparing and planning that we had into the party. Happy Birthday Sweetie!

The Dessert Bar Dilemma

Desertbar

I have been searching the net for weeks trying to plan the perfect Frozen themed party for Marina and the one thing that I come across constantly are these gorgeous displays of sweets and goodies that would entice both children and adult alike. They also come at a very hefty price tag.

BdaycakeThe centerpiece is usually a cake that is either an elegant confection of swirling buttercream in themed colors or a towering work of art. The price tag on these cakes can range from $60 for a simple grocery store bakery cake to $100s of dollars for a cake from a specialty bakery. I am planning a party meant for toddlers who aren’t going to really care about how everything looks so I am redirecting the money I would spend on the cake into non food surprises for the kids.

To cut the costs of purchasing a cake we are going to bake Marina’s cake from scratch. My mom has baked cakes for each of us throughout the years and I am looking forward to one of her homemade cakes this year for Marina. I will be sharing her recipe in another post later this month.

CakepopsNo desert bar would be complete without a couple of other treats like cake pops and chocolate dipped oreos. My sister and I are going to tackle those with her. These will be a first for us and I am looking forward to channeling my inner “Cake Boss”.

With all of the inspiration and how-tos on the net, I am sure we can create some delectable treats the kids will love.

My Baby Is Turning Three!

LBJGSCMarinaIt is hard to believe that my little girl will be turning 3 next month. To celebrate, I will be posting budget party planning tips, ideas, recipes. During the month of April, we will be featuring some of Marina’s favorite things so watch for upcoming Instagram giveaway announcements from some of our favorite companies!

Marina absolutely LOVES Frozen and to sings with Anna and Elsa through the movie.  Our party theme this year will be Frozen, complete with a visit from Queen Elsa herself, courtesy of Executor Haruko Art! We are so excited about this!

Review – NeilMed Naspira Nasal-Oral Aspirator

I hate when my little one has a cold and a stuffy nose, of course at her age she just cannot blow her nose. We’ve used saline drops, bulb syringes and tissues but the most effective tool I have found is NeilMed’s Nasal-Oral Aspirator. It’s safe and effective and I love that it is transparent and comes apart easily. This makes it easy to see inside to make sure you have cleaned it properly after use.

Key Features:

  • Transparent design.
  • Safe for babies & toddlers
  • Included 7 in-line disposable filters to reduce contamination risk
  • Components pull apart for easy cleaning
  • 2-in-1 design allows for use as both a bulb and an aspirator
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Made of high-grade silicone
  • Dishwasher safe (excluding disposable filters)

neilmed1My Thoughts:

I love how easy the aspirator is to use. It’s so much more comfortable for my daughter than the standard bulb syringe. Because it is transparent, you can see it actually work instead of hoping you have suctioned out their little nose properly. It was very easy to clean after use. You just take the aspirator apart, throw the used filter away and wash the parts in warm soapy water. You can also sterilize it by placing the pieces in boiling water for 5 minutes. I love this product and definitely recommend it it to all parents of young children.

This Has Been An Incredible Year!

Marina-Xmas2015-3Happy New Year!! I can’t thank everyone in my life enough for the love and support given to me and my daughter. I’ve had my rough patches but all of the good far outweighs any of the bad in my life.

This past year I started learning how to cope with my depression and I have finally found out what my mystery illness was that has been causing my liver to to swell. My intestines are folding. I’m not sure how bad it is yet but hopefully I will find out soon. I will be seeing a GI specialist and may require surgery to correct the fold. I know it will be a major surgery and it really frightens me. The unknown is always frightening but now we have a starting point and from here it can only be uphill.

Marina-Xmas2015-2The holidays were wonderful and I would like to thank those special people in my life that helped me make Marina’s Christmas so joyous. My family of course — but my daughter has very special angels too. Thank you guys so much for the wonderful gifts. You always have a special place in our hearts ❤

And Fisher-Price…You ROCK! What started as a simple inquiry about upcoming holiday sales turned into a wonderful gift for my baby girl this Christmas. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the puppy for Marina to cuddle and the coupon that allowed me to be able to really provide my baby girl with some awesome Christmas Gifts from me. Your customer service reps are just amazing people.

Marina-BabyJackI’d also like to thank the wonderful companies that Marina and I have had a chance to work with this year.  It has been a pleasure working with you and we look forward to working with you in the future.

I can’t begin to thank everyone enough. I am truly blessed and I look forward to what the future holds for both of us.

The Hard Work Is Paying Off!

CM1I found out yesterday that I will graduate in May with both an Associate’s in Arts and an Associate’s in Science. After the fall of 2016 I should also have an Associate’s in Criminal Justice. I plan on continuing to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. The past couple of years has been an incredible journey of both ups and downs from learning how to be a parent to battling depression.

The hard work is worth it and I don’t think I could have come this far without my support network. I have a wonderful family and some incredible friends that have stuck by me through all of this. I will be someone that my daughter can me proud of.

Marina2As for Marina…I can’t believe how fast she is growing. She’s not a baby anymore. She is a spunky and loving little girl who surprises me everyday with something new she has learned. She’s getting so tall and starting to loose her chunky little legs. She loves going for walks and playing in the park. She can be stubborn and bullheaded or as sweet as sugar depending on her mood. From what mom tells me, she’s the perfect toddler and just like me when I was her age.

I am really looking forward to the holiday break in between semesters so I can spend more time with my little cuddle bug.
